The Wheel of Life - My Story

Updated: Jul 21

Before I coached others with it, I used the Wheel of Life myself.

A few years ago, I used to be so busy "doing things”, but I could tell there was something missing; an itch I couldn't scratch. At the time I wasn’t sleeping well, something was definitely off and when I look back now, I didn’t even know I was finding it hard to relax and properly connect with people.

So, at the time, I drew a simple circle, split it into 8 sections. Labelled each section with the most important things in my life: career, family, health etc and scored them.

What started as a 10-minute exercise turned into something deeper. It showed me where I was over-investing…and where I was neglecting the things that mattered most.

I asked myself five golden questions, ones I regularly use with my coaching clients now, and that’s when it became clear. It brought about a simple shift. Then another. And another. The exercise was the catalyst for greater change and what came next.

I self-financed and enrolled onto an ILM Level 7 coaching qualification. A hugely intense and rewarding course consisting many hours work followed by long, long days.

It’s not that that itch got scratched so to speak, more it dissolved away. That emptiness was filled by helping others untangle their complex lives. While this may sound a bit drastic, what started as a simple reflection exercise went on to change my life:

  • I found balance in work and life

  • I no longer compromise on purpose: the work I do has to matter

  • I’ve made space for creativity: I’ve written a screenplay I’m hugely proud of

  • I’m more present: savouring small moments with the people I care about

The result? My family tell me I’m happier. And I feel it.

Since then, I use the same tool in many ways with coachees, leaders, founders, exec teams and without fail, it reveals hidden truths, bringing priorities and actions into sharper focus.

Such is the value of the tool I want to share it with others and that's why I am running an open access Wheel of Life coaching workshop on Wednesday 10th September 2025, 12.30pm-1.30pm.

Attendees will also gain access to a private community hub providing ongoing support, live sessions, and resources.
